Odyssey Ten draws inspiration from Homer’s epic poem Odyssey and each year’s collection focuses on symbols and images from a different rhapsody.
The Summer 2019 swimwear designs are based on Odyssey’s second rhapsody and feature the following symbols:
The Eagles. Two eagles are fighting each other as they fly over the gathered crowd. According to Prophet Halitherses, who interprets the omen, Ulysses will return very soon and punish the suitors for their inappropriate behavior towards his wife and family.
The suitors. Noble men of Ithaca and other ancient kingdoms are trying to win Penelope’s heart, marry her and take over the throne from Ulysses. In the second rhapsody, Telemachus is asking them to kindly stop harassing his mother and leave his home.
Mentor. Goddess Athena, pretending to be Mentor, the old friend of Ulysses, helps Telemachus to start his journey in finding his father.
The Loom. Penelope promised to choose a new husband after finishing her embroidery. Antinous blames her for undoing during the night what she weaves during the day, in an effort to delay making a decision to marry one of the suitors.
