Which came first, the chicken or the egg?
Inspired by folk art and traditional embroideries exhibited at the Benaki Museum, a banner was crafted, serving as an ancient symbol of battle and identity. Half of a sailcloth, resembling a blank canvas, is adorned by two birds—a hen and a rooster—painted using the natural hue of beetroot. The embroidered question 'Which came first, the chicken or the egg?' symbolizes the fertile interaction between the creator and the creation. Each piece of art bears the imprint of its maker, mirroring how the creator molds their identity through their craft.

The artwork was featured in the exhibition Project Yfasma, organized by The Benaki Museum, where artists, designers, and craftsmen were invited to derive inspiration from a piece of cotton textile and create an artistic object.
